On Saturday, April 30 2005, the Unic Club of Canada came together to
remember their late member, Mr. Monday Uyi Ediagbonya who passed on to the
lord on April 26th, 2004. The ceremony was held at St.
Augustine Catholic Church in North York here in Toronto.
Earlier in the day at the Beachwood Cemetery, the final resting-place of
late Uyi Ediagbonya, friends and, all members of the Unic Club of Canada
gathered to pay respect. Despite the weather and scattering downpour, the
turn out was huge and very encouraging.
Laying of wreath at the tombstone was done by the president of Unic
Club, Mr. Franklin Omoruna, who thanked every one for taking the time to
attend despite the inclement weather to remember Mr. Uyi Ediagbonya. In
responding on behalf of his siblings, Mr. Kevin Ediagbonya, the eldest
sons thanked all present especially the Unic Club for organizing the
remembrance.
The remembrance ceremony later moved to late Ediagbonya’s residence in
Milton for the reception. The ceremony went on, well into the night with
an elaborate entertainment provided by the members of the UNIC Club.
The highlights of the occasion was when
the Unic Club president, Mr. Franklin Omoruna on behalf of the club presented
a check of one thousand dollars ($1000.00) to Mr. Kevin Ediagbonya. This
amount was the first phase of the six thousand dollars scholarship fund the
Unic Club promised the late Uyi Ediagbonya’s family last year during the
burial.
Mr. Kevin Ediagbonya again speaking for the family expressed that the
family is graceful and overwhelmed that Unic Club was able to keep to a
promise made one year ago. In his own words, Kevin referred to all members of the Unic
Club as “you all has become daddy
to me and my siblings since my dad passed away, that means a lot to me and my
siblings, thank you all”. Also speaking was Mrs. Fatima and Mrs.
Caroline Ediagbonya, wives of late Ediagbonya. Both ladies thanked the Unic
Club for the support the family has received for the last twelve months.
