MR. FRANKLIN OMORUNA
PRESIDENT, UNIC CLUB OF CANADA, TORONTO
On behalf of all the executives, and our entire members and families, I welcome
you to THIS WEB SITE.
The members of this great
Club comprises of distinguished professional men that have made a decision to provide
selfless service to help the people of Edo State
of Nigeria in particular and our immediate Canadian community, in general. We recognize that life is an immense mural that requires each of us to pick
up the brush and paint a stroke.
Living in Canada has given us an opportunity to have at our disposal many amenities which we can take for granted, but are a big necessity and sometimes luxury back home in Edo State.
It is our internal obligation towards our families and community not to let them suffer from the lack
of basic infrastructure and amenities when we have a chance of rendering assistance. The real winners in life are the people who look at every situation with an expectation that they can make it work or make
it better. It is better to light a candle rather than curse the darkness.
This Club
has therefore focused on what we can impact and let go of the
rest.
Towards
this end, a few years ago, we launched Project 2000, which marked the
beginning of a longitudinal service to the people of Edo State.
At that time, we were able to harness the resources around us by receiving
huge quantities of medical equipment and cash donation that were used
for the historic project executed by our great Club and commissioned by
His Excellency, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, the Executive Governor
of Edo State, on June 1, 2001. The sign of this mammoth project is proudly
displayed at the Children's Health Centre, Central Hospital, Benin City.
This Centre has now been adopted for continuous improvement on an ongoing
basis.
Today, we call on all of you to support this
Club that has transcended from a social club to a selfless service organization, and acting as a
vehicle to be used to transfer your human kindness to the people of Edo State
of Nigeria and our local community here in Toronto, Canada. Our aim is to raise funds and
tap on the resources around us, to implement the establishment of clean and accessible water to our hospitals and some other strategic location in the State.
In addition to this, we are on the verge of setting up a multi-cultural, multi-purpose
resource/service centre for the local communities in Toronto.
Just like the camel, the UNIC Club can do anything except back up.
Once again I thank you all on behalf of my valued and dedicated members,
for taking time to join us in making this quest for supportive and, philanthropic
innovation a success.
May God bless you all abundantly, Amen.
